LET’S GIVE OUR BONES THE STRENGTH – is a motto of this year’s World Day of Osteoporosis, which has been remembered every year on 20th of October. It has been declared by the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) since 1997. As a result, the public learn more about the possibilities of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis as well as other metabolic bone diseases.
I am always in a good shape
In Slovakia, we do not neglect the prevention and, thanks to the project I am always in a good shape, people can learn more about how prevention of the osteoporosis, and how to have strong bones, beautiful teeth, resiliant blood vessels, healthy heart, strong muscles and good imune system.
Here, you can find information why we need for our bones, in every age, adequate intake of natural calcium together with vitamin D3 and K2. Vitamins D3 and K2 help to direct and store calcium in the bones. In case of a the long-term decrease of blood calcium level the body uses, for normalization of blood levels, calcium from the bones. The bones are becoming more porous, fragile over time, and the result is osteopenia and osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis (bone thinning) is a metabolic bone disorder in which bone mass decreases, and this disorder of bone structure increases the risk of fractures. Osteoporosis is also called a silent thief of bones, because the people are unaware that they are loosing the bone tissue and they may discover the disease only at the time of their first fracture. Osteoporotic fracture in old age can be fatal. The critical periods for risk of osteoporosis are particularly menopause and aging.
The project I’m always in a good shape is important especially because the establishment and development of osteoporosis may be, to some extent, prevented by proper nutrition, movement, and in particular, by an adequate intake of natural calcium together with vitamin D3 and K2. Most people however do not know why an intake of natural calcium is important and why it is important to take calcium together with vitamin K2 and D3. On these pages, the patients will receive adequate information on osteoporosis prevention and how to maintain strong and resilient bones.
Over 200 million people are affected by osteoporosis worldwide. In Slovakia, about 8% of the population, it means more than 400,000 people are affected with osteoporosis. Approximately one in three women and one in five men over 50 years suffers from fracture due to osteoporosis. Every three seconds someone in the world breaks the bone due to osteoporosis. The cost of osteoporotic fractures treatment achieved, only in European Union, over € 37 trillion, and the assumption is that by 2025 the cost will increase by another 25%.
