Seniorský vek

People older than 65 years have usually multiple health problems connected with older age and they undergo more regular check-ups by medical specialists than they were undergoing in their active age. The number of pills sorted out in the drug-box and ready for use is somehow standard for this period of life. We however should not forget to increase the intake of vitamins and minerals as well, as they are more difficult to be utilized in older age.

Risk of fractures

The bones are gathering their strength especially during childhood and adolescence. Bone mass progressively decreases since 35 year of age, and if we do not help to maintain our bones healthy, they become brittle and more easy to break. Elderly people are especially prone to fracture as they are more often hospitalized with the risk of falls and they have also other comorbidities that puts them into higher risk of fractures and death. It is important to supplement the body with sufficient amount of calcium. If there is deficiency of calcium, the body takes it directly from the bones and that can lead to weakening of the bones. Men who are over 65 years of age should take up to 1,500 mg of calcium per day. The women should take 1,200-1,500 mg of calcium per day depending on the concomitant use of hormone replacement therapy. Ideally, calcium should be taken in triple combination. Natural calcium OVOVITAL® should be taken in the evening, and vitamin K2 and vitamin D3 in the morning. The use of calcium alone is not very useful as when calcium is taken alone it cannot be properly absorbed and utilized. Calcium needs vitamin D3 for its proper absorption into the blood and vitamin K2 is importatnt for directing calcium into the places where it is important, it means into the bones and teeth.
